FAQ

Why are so many organizations using virtualization technologies in their data centers?

Virtualization offers enormous efficiencies. Virtual machines require less space, energy and manpower—and less cost to run. You can run multiple virtual machines on your existing servers and can move and configure your virtual machine resources as needed. Compared to hardware, virtual machine software can be accessed in minutes, not weeks.
Can I try the LifeSize UVC product applications before I buy them?

A free trial of any LifeSize UVC application can be activated from the LifeSize UVC Platform, which is available as a free download from the LifeSize website. We do require registration when you download the platform.
What virtualization software do you recommend?

We recommend VMware vSphere® Hypervisor ESXi 4.0+ or Microsoft Hyper-V 2.0 and 3.0.
Can I add capacity to my LifeSize UVC application as my needs grow?

The LifeSize UVC solution is designed to fit your needs over time. Purchase the Standard Edition or the feature-rich Enterprise Edition at a low capacity level, and then add additional capacity when you are ready. See the embedded LifeSize UVC Capacity Planner tool to help plan and predict capacity for virtual machine or hardware deployments.
How is this different than the virtual machine software option that you've offered in the past on LifeSize Transit?

The LifeSize UVC Platform is an integrated, virtualized software platform for the entire range of infrastructure products from LifeSize. It's the integration of multiple products that sets LifeSize UVC Transit and the entire portfolio apart—plus greater flexibility to buy the capacity and features you need today with the option to add capacity or upgrade to a higher feature edition when needed.
How does the integrated LifeSize UVC platform benefit me?

By integrating multiple applications on one platform, you can now instantly trial any of the applications in minutes. And instead of installing and provisioning separate appliances, you install the platform once and have access to all the applications from one common interface.
Do all LifeSize UVC applications have Enterprise Editions?

As of today, LifeSize UVC Video Center and LifeSize UVC Multipoint can be purchased as Standard or Enterprise Editions. Enterprise Editions will be added to other LifeSize UVC applications based on demand for more advanced features.
Once using Enterprise Edition, can I go back to using Standard Edition?

On applications that offer both, you can upgrade from Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition. However, LifeSize UVC applications that are running Enterprise Edition cannot revert to Standard Edition.
Will all LifeSize UVC applications be available as virtual machine software and hardware?

Yes. By design, LifeSize UVC applications will be available on both the LifeSize UVC virtual machine software and hardware appliance, letting you choose a deployment option that best fits your needs and IT environment. The availability of a LifeSize UVC application as virtual machine software ensures that all customers can instantly trial and evaluate a LifeSize infrastructure product before they buy it.
