European Justice Department Uses Video Technology to Reduce Transportation Costs of Incarcerated Individuals, Ensure Citizen Safety

A justice department in one of the largest cities in Southern Europe is wholly responsible for the protection of its citizens and incarcerating men and women who may be a threat to public safety.

When an individual commits a violent crime, they are removed from society until the facts of the case have been brought to light and the final verdict is announced at a jury trial. During the trial, the individual is brought out of his prison cell and transported to the courtroom. Not only is this process costly with the security measures that must be put into place, it is also potentially dangerous if the individual decides to act out or try to escape. For this reason, the justice department needed an alternative way for an individual to attend their trial while remaining in maximum security. Several years ago, the justice department purchased video conferencing equipment but the picture quality was less than desirable. After several years of suffering through standard definition video technology, the department believed it was time for an upgrade.

The justice department turned to LifeSize, known for its high-definition endpoints and innovative solutions. The LifeSize Room endpoints were exactly what the department was looking for and they quickly purchased 600 units to be placed in courtrooms, prisons and other county offices.

“LifeSize impressed me from start to finish,” said a representative from the justice department. “Everything about their technology is incredible and we believe it has improved our judicial process.”
