Cool Uses of Video: HD Streaming/Recording for Event Broadcasts

HD streaming, recording and auto-publishing is one of the most innovative tools in the video conferencing industry. Seeing someone face to face far exceeds an audio call or email, but being able to record that call for later viewing or stream it to thousands of participants truly takes this technology to new heights. In this series, we’ll examine some cool applications for HD video streaming and recording.

Companies are larger and more globally-distributed than ever before. They often face specific challenges such as time zone constraints, maintaining company culture and communication barriers, among others. Using video helps businesses overcome half of the battle by providing a face-to-face communications model to help build more personal relationships among global employees. But HD streaming/recording provides the solution for the other half of the battle.

If an executive on the West Coast wants to call a town hall meeting in the middle of day, constituents in Europe and Asia will already be home for the evening and unable to attend. By recording this presentation to a streaming/recording solution, those employees can tune in to the meeting in the morning and stay abreast of critical information. With “auto-publishing”, the presentation will be immediately uploaded to the company’s “YouTube” and ready for viewing after the executive is finished speaking.

If a company is able to schedule a meeting where all of the time zones are during normal business hours, those remote employees can watch the live stream from their desktop PCs, iPhones or iPads and feel as if they are in the same room as the presenter, or watch later on-demand if they are in another meeting.

This technology works for any event, not just town hall meetings. In case you missed it, LifeSize hosted a concert with local musician, Matt the Electrician, to celebrate SXSW and streamed it to all of our worldwide employees. Not only was this fun, it fostered a positive corporate culture and helped our distributed workforce feel connected with the events happening at our headquarters. Other companies stream continuing education classes, strategy meetings and a number of other events.
