See why Austin is quickly gaining notoriety as so much more than the weird live music spot deep in the heart of Texas. Home to the famed “i love you so much” wall (South Congress location), this little cube of coffee goodness has been serving up turbos, sandwiches, baked goods and live music since 1999. Go for the photo op, stay for the music, and come back time and time again for the coffee.
The kind of place rumored to wrap their sandwiches in pages from The Onion long ago, this sandwich shop is exactly what you’d expect from Austin—unique and flavorful ingredients made from scratch and assembled with care.
Yes, if you sit in one of the chairs that is in an aisle, you may get run into three to four times a meal, but you won’t care because your face will be stuffed with delicious pizza. Service is good, beer and wine selections are well curated and the pizza is some of the best in Austin.
Just east of downtown, this American gastropub tops the list for many locals. From candied pork belly and triple fried duck fat fries to brussels sprouts and roasted beets, the Salty Sow has something for everyone to fall in love with.
This vintage cocktail bar is nestled right in the heart of downtown. The drink menu is extensive, and if they don’t have it on the menu, they still probably know how to make it. It has a speakeasy charm, including a secret bookcase entrance, and it wouldn’t be an Austin bar without live music.
