Nothing Terrible About These Twos

It’s been an incredible two years here at Lifesize, likely the most intense experience of my business career.

We completely reinvented our product line to be a simple, secure, scalable and affordable Cloud service meeting platform perfectly paired with our fantastic conference room cameras. We restructured and reorganized the company. At the same time, we raised $17.5 million of capital from top-tier Silicon Valley venture capitalist firms and negotiated a spin out from Logitech to become a stand-alone, independent company.

And you know what? It’s working. We caught three perfect waves, all at the right time. First, there is the convergence of meeting technologies — from audio, web and video conferencing to recording and streaming — into a unified platform. These combined markets are forecasted to be a $19 billion global market by 2019. Second, businesses are adopting cloud-based delivery models for all kinds of business-critical systems at warp speed, expanding access to technology and applications that were previously only available to the largest of companies. This leads us to the third wave — one that I’ve been waiting 22 years for: video collaboration has become a mainstream, high value, must-have communication technology for professional organizations of all sizes. It’s now a strategic productivity necessity for every employee rather than just an afterthought in a custom conference room build-out.

When we launched our Cloud service in June 2014, we were not 100% sure what was going to happen — this was a radical change from what we had been doing for more than 10 years. But in the first month, 40 customers signed up and we were off to the races. We now add more than 140 new customers per month and have more than 3,200 paying customer accounts around the world. We have been very pleased with how quickly our new business is growing in Europe as well.

Conference room connectivity is the anchor of our solution as 75% of our customers buy and pair conference room cameras to our service. It is a magical combination of hardware, software, service and UX that clearly differentiates us from any of our competitors in a very defensible way — a tribute to the more than 13 years spent building and refining those beautiful devices.

Lifesize really is a completely new business in a completely new space. Our company has been transformed, the market has been transformed, the competitive dynamics in the industry have been radically transformed and as old players stumble, new ideas shine. It’s been a great ride, and we are just getting started.

In recognition of the huge amounts of support we’ve received from our awesome user base, we’ve assembled some fun highlights to give a little insight into the who, what, when and how much of Lifesize. Enjoy!
