To celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving, VideoConferencingSpot is highlighting those who mean most to us at LifeSize. In this season of gratitude, this tribute is only a small token of appreciation for the people who make LifeSize great.
When you have something amazing on your hands, you want to shout it from the rooftops. When LifeSize began developing its Icon Series two years before it officially launched in January 2013, keeping it a secret was a difficult task to say the least. We knew that this product had the ability to change the way the world communicates by providing a user interface that was so simple and intuitive, it felt as easy to use as a smartphone. When it came time for the product to finally be released to the public, only one phrase seemed to sum up exactly how groundbreaking the product really is: Smart Video™.
After a series of marketing teasers, LifeSize Icon Series and Smart Video officially launched on January 29, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. Central time with a live video, marking the biggest launch in company history.
“The UI of the LifeSize Icon Series is unlike any I’ve seen on a video conferencing system. Its slick, icon-driven design just makes sense for an optimal user experience. I expect that there is tremendous market opportunity for this solution, especially at its attractive price point. For companies that have traditionally rejected video due to its cost and complexity, I would recommend a closer look at the LifeSize Icon Series.” — Robert Arnold, Program Manager for Unified Communications and Collaboration, Frost and Sullivan
“The product buzz in the LifeSize ISE booth was around a new endpoint line dubbed the Icon Series. The story is best summed up with a look at the handheld remote that supports an ease-of-use story unlike that of any other room system. Imagine a one-button remote! Icon products are designed to be used with the company’s UVC platform solutions. Icon Summary: super simple and price competitive.” — Wainhouse Research, News & Views on Unified Communications & Collaboration, Volume 14 Issue #04
“LifeSize’s new, easy-to-use, lower-priced Icon video products may expand the video market, while better positioning the company against competition.” — Ken Landoline, Current Analysis
“The new user interface is a slick, modern design, stripped of all confusing textual setting menus. Users are presented with an intuitive, immediately understandable set of icons to choose. This is clearly how the ‘Icon’ series got its name and obviously the main focus of the product design team. They appear to have met their goal, as a quick demo of the new UI convinced me that even a complete video conferencing novice should be able to pick up the remote and place a call with almost no instruction or help.” — David Maldow, Telepresence Options
Not to mention, we had a rip-roaring party to celebrate our launch. Here are some of our favorite photos from the event:
Even though the Icon Series launched nearly a year ago, there is still no solution on the market that can match its quality, flexibility and simplicity. We are so thankful for all of the teams that made this product and its launch possible. Delivering the Smart Video™ experience truly is a team effort that we can all be proud of.
