Every day, we hear about new ways that customers are using HD video to change the way people communicate, from virtual field trips to diagnosing a patient from hundreds of miles away. But what about other unique ways that people are using video? Here are a few we wanted to share.
Disaster and Crisis Management: One of our customers in Texas, Houston TranStar, uses video to mobilize response teams during a disaster situation, whether it is a weather emergency, traffic accident or even a threat to homeland security. For the latter, Houston TranStar uses video to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to evaluate terrorist threats quickly and efficiently. “HD video provides another dimension of interaction that no other form of communication can,” said Francisco Sanchez Jr., public information officer for the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Virtual Cello Lessons: Professor Richard Aaron teaches some of the best and brightest musical students in the country at Juilliard School in New York City and does it all from his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. How? Aaron conducts his private lessons using a video system in Michigan, while his students dial in from practice rooms in NYC. “It’s unbelievable,” Aaron said. “I can teach all day in Michigan in my office and go home and have dinner with my family. It saves so much energy. Life is much better.”
Initial Legal Hearings for Incarcerated Individuals: More and more, we’re seeing HD video being used expedite slow-moving processes. For example, Hall County Courts in Georgia use video to help incarcerated individuals attending their initial hearing (which includes a formal reading of all charges, the defendant’s rights and bail amount). Before video, this process was extremely time-consuming and wasted tax dollars. Now, individuals can attend these hearings virtually using video solutions, both of which provide crystal-clear, lifelike experiences.
Sign Language Translations for the Deaf: ONCALL Interpreters and Translators Agency is based in Australia and provides translation services in almost 150 languages. Not only does the company provide translations for spoken languages, they also provide AUSLAN, which is a sign language for the deaf. For this to be successful, ONCALL needed a video technology that enabled sharp, face to face interaction. “The quality of the LifeSize HD video communication is so high that it does feel as though our interpreters and clients are together, in one room,” said Ari Pappas, corporate manager of ONCALL.
