I am a firm believer that your job should be more than just a place to earn a paycheck. Spending at least a third to half of my day working for a company without a soul, mission or purpose just isn’t fulfilling. I need to contribute and understand how I make a difference. I want to know my company is helping the greater good rather than just focusing on making a buck. I think most people would agree.
Which is why I get so excited when I see companies do great things. And why I have to write about a very special event my company participated in last weekend. On Saturday, a group of local children wrapped up a week long summer theatre camp at One World Theatre with a musical production of Beauty Lou & The Country Beast. Over 60 kids participated in the camp including 10 children of deployed troops who were provided scholarships by One World and the Red Cross.
LifeSize partnered with the American Red Cross and One World Theatre to provide HD video conferencing systems to broadcast the performance to military parents serving on various bases in Iraq. We shipped systems to 3 different military camps in Iraq and installed another on the main stage of the theatre along with private systems in 3 different offices for family conversations after the musical.
When families walked into the theatre, their deployed parents were already on screen. Many rushed down to the televisions and started talking with deployed family members they haven’t seen in months. One child hugged the television when he talked with his Dad. A wife commented that it was ‘just like my husband was here.’ A father of a deployed soldier said this was the most amazing thing he’s ever experienced and was grateful to us for letting him see his son.

It was an emotional day and a heart-warming event. It’s moments like this that clearly demonstrate our company vision to change the way people work and live. It’s a testament that our company gives back to the local and global community. How could I not be proud to be associated with LifeSize?
So I’m curious, do you work somewhere that makes a difference? Are you allowed to contribute in a way that fulfills you and makes you more passionate about your job and your company? I’d love to hear your story.
The Recruiting Department at LifeSize Communications started this blog to share information with our talent community. It's a great resource for anyone interested in learning more about working at LifeSize.

[...] Last weekend, over 60 kids got together at a Theatre Camp in Austin to perform “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast.” It was typical of Austin’s great summer programs with one exception — thanks to scholarships by ourselves and partners at the Red Cross and the One World Theatre, 10 of the kids involved were children of deployed parents in Iraq. By hooking up LifeSize systems in three different military camps as well as at the theatre, parents got to watch their kids perform and then catch up with them as close to “in person” as they’ve been able to for a very long time. The experience was truly heartwarming — you can read more about it here. [...]
