Lifesize® Icon™ Series 300/500/700

Last Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Installing a Web Browser

‘Lifesize Connect Plus +’ allows customers to install and run a managed and secured web browser on their Lifesize Icon 300, 500, or 700 room system. This feature lets users join meetings and benefit from the same user experiences that leading third-party meeting service providers offer.

Lifesize has provided a list of verified third-party browsers and setup instructions for system administrators. Read this section thoroughly before attempting to install and use this feature.

Technical overview, requirements, and prerequisites

‘Lifesize Connect Plus +’ enables users to join meetings directly from the Lifesize Icon system hardware using a verified web browser. Attendees using the web browser installed on the Icon room system can join meetings on different third-party web apps and receive the same user experience as they would on their own computers.

Note: System Administrators must first download and install the web browser directly on the Lifesize Icon system hardware.

How does it work?

Users open the supported web browser from the Lifesize Icon system and navigate to the Lifesize Meeting Solution Selection page. Then, choose one of the supported third-party web apps to join a meeting.

Note: The USB keyboard and mouse/trackpad can be plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel of the Icon system.

Networking and port security

When a third-party web browser is active, it runs just as it would on any desktop computer. As a result, any communication and data exchanged between the browser and third-party meeting service is routed directly. Ergo, the published Lifesize cloud firewall, network port, and service domain name references do not apply. This maintains the integrity and security of the third-party app and requires system administrators to ensure appropriate security policies are in place.

System administrators must ensure they apply appropriate access, controls, and permissions to enable the use of third-party meeting services in line with the documentation published by the third-party vendor.

Lifesize takes no responsibility for the access, provisioning, or performance of customer networking or port security policies.

Prerequisites and requirements

To properly connect and run third-party web app meetings, the following items must be available:

  • Lifesize Icon 300/500/700 system, paired with the Lifesize cloud service
  • Valid Lifesize Device Software Subscription (DSS)
  • Running v4.4.0 or later software
  • USB keyboard and mouse/trackpad* connected to the USB ports of the Lifesize Icon system

Customers must ensure their Lifesize Icon cloud room systems have DSS coverage and always maintain an active registration with the Lifesize service. Failure to maintain an active registration may limit functionality.

Note: Lifesize does not supply or maintain a list of approved USB keyboards, mice, or other pointing devices. Multi-function keyboards or mice with non-standard or additional button controls may not be recognized.

Compatible third-party web browsers

The following browsers have been verified by Lifesize to be used with ‘Lifesize Connect Plus +.’

  • Google Chrome™ for OpenSUSE Linux x86 64-bit desktops – Version 104.0 or later

Warning: The installation of third-party software apps which are not listed above is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this guideline may result in system instability or file system corruption, for which Lifesize will bear no responsibility.

With the provision of the Lifesize Connect Plus feature, Lifesize claims no association, partnership, or certification by Google LLC, Microsoft Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., or Zoom Video Communications, Inc.

Lifesize bears no responsibility for the availability, distribution, provisioning, sale, licensing, or support of third-party software applications.

It is the responsibility of the customer to download and install Google Chrome acquired directly from the vendor’s own download page and to comply with the licensing and terms of use communicated by Google LLC, Microsoft Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., and/or Zoom Video Communications, Inc.

We recommend that system administrators enable only one Icon room system for test and evaluation purposes. This allows for familiarization with downloading, installing, and running the Google Chrome browser on their Lifesize meeting room systems before rolling it out across the organization.

Warning: Lifesize does not recommend or support local call recording features when using third-party meeting platforms, as the onboard system storage is limited. Using these features against advice may result in system instability or file-system corruption.

Managing the third-party web browser

As noted above, customers are responsible for ensuring they have adequate licensing and permissions to download and install third-party software apps. By downloading and installing these apps, you agree to be bound by the terms of the third-party vendor’s software licensing agreements.

Lifesize only supports apps previously verified as compatible by our in-house team.
