Leading construction and management firm cuts carbon emissions in one year by nine tons using Lifesize

Rider Levett Bucknall, a global property and construction consultancy firm, has deployed Lifesize HD video conferencing systems across its seven UK offices to increase communication and collaboration and reduce travel-related expenses and carbon emissions. Since implementing Lifesize one year ago, RLB has cut its travel-related carbon emissions by nine tons.

As part of a global expansion strategy, present-day RLB was created through the merger of three separate companies, each with a well-defined regional presence. In 2007, the company launched its Global Practice and opened new offices in the UK to address growing globalization and the increasingly multinational demands of its clients.

“We were faced with a dilemma: colleagues and project teams in different offices needed to communicate and collaborate. But rising travel costs and the associated carbon emissions meant traveling to and from meetings wasn’t financially or environmentally responsible,” said Mark Evans, IT Manager at RLB. “Lifesize helps us work smarter all the way around. Not only have we reduced expenses and our carbon footprint, but we’ve also increased productivity and client satisfaction, which makes everyone happy.”

RLB uses the Lifesize® Room™ HD video conferencing systems and Lifesize® Multipoint™ 24-Port HD video communications bridges daily for project, management and team meetings to minimize the company’s environmental impact. As a result, the company achieved its ISO 14001 certification – the internationally accepted standard that specifies the requirements for any organization that wishes to establish, implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system.

RLB and its clients also benefit from the interoperability of Lifesize systems. RLB conducts video conferences with clients because all Lifesize products are standards-based and interoperate with video systems from other vendors. Since RLB aims to maximize the opportunities for environmental enhancements in both its internal practices and in the advice it provides clients, the company has also developed video conferencing best practices it shares with clients – resulting in a value-added service that contributes to client satisfaction.

Our objective at Lifesize is to create a superior visual communication experience for our customers that is flexible and affordable to deliver real value today while helping them build for the future,” said Colin Buechler, senior vice president of marketing at Lifesize Communications. “We are honored that Lifesize has been chosen by Rider Levett Bucknall, an institution whose work is known around the world for uncompromising quality.”
