Lifesize Recommends: Best Food Trucks and Trailers at SXSW 2015 Mar 10, 2015 by Diana Rosales in Lifesize, SXSW, Travel, Trends Being headquartered in Austin, TX, we’ve had the great fortune to watch the South by Southwest Festival transform into the monster of music, film and interactive tech that it is today. Whether you’re just visiting for the festival or you’re lucky enough to call Austin home, we invite you to use this year’s SXSW as an excuse to tour the city and take in the great food to be had out of the sides of the various trucks and trailers around town. From brisket at La Barbeque to the delicious red velvet cupcakes at Hey Cupcake!, there are always new and tasty options to choose from. Here are just a few of our favorites. Tweet us @LifesizeHD and tell us what you think!La Barbeque: Some of the best BBQ in town comes from a small food trailer in East Austin called La Barbeque. You may have to wait over two hours, but trust us—the brisket is well worth the wait.Red Star Southern: The best biscuit and “hot” fried chicken in town are served here. It opens at 1 pm Thursday– Sunday, but get there early because they are known to sell out!Big Fat Greek Gyros: Notorious for serving the late night crowd on Rainey Street, this food trailer is not to be missed. You can’t go wrong with the Hercules Gyro. Just the name itself is worth making the trip!Burro Cheese Kitchen: Feeling nostalgic? Make sure to take a trip to Burro Cheese Kitchen. Tucked away under a tree on South Congress is a brightly yellow-painted truck, where the childhood favorite, grilled cheese, is created. You can choose from their deliciously crafted artisan sandwiches, like the Waylon & Willie, to your own cheesy creation.Mighty Cone: A fan favorite at the Austin City Music Festival, the “Hot ‘n’ Crunchy Cone” is out of this world. You have the option of chicken, shrimp and/or avocado. Each cone is perfectly seasoned with almonds, sesame seeds, and corn flakes and topped with a mango-jalapeno slaw with ancho sauce wrapped in a tortilla. Is your mouth watering yet?Thai Kun: Ranked on Bon Appetit’s “The Hot 10 2014” list as the eighth-best restaurant in the country, it’s quickly become a favorite of the locals. But be warned that you MUST like spicy food. Also, one of the vegetarian items, the grilled bread (from local bakery, Easy Tiger) with peanut curry sauce, is dangerously addicting.Via 313: Two brothers from Detroit are causing quite a stir in Austin. At their food truck, Via 313, they make authentic Detroit-style pizza that is baked in a square blue steel automotive parts pan. Our personal favorite is the Cadillac!Hey Cupcake!: It’s hard to miss the Airstream with the big, twirling, pink cupcake on top, but inside they are whipping up tasty cupcakes. Can’t choose just one? They offer a sampler pack that comes with all of the favorites, like the Michael Jackson. Looking for something a little more permanent?
