Lifesize Room® Delivers True-to-Life Experience by Enabling Nearly 10x Video Quality at Comparable Price Range to Traditional, Low Resolution Systems

Making high definition (HD) video communications a reality today, Lifesize® has introduced Lifesize® Room™ which leverages the power and performance of Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) (NYSE: TXN) video-optimized digital signal processing (DSP) technology. Lifesize Room is a high definition video communications product that delivers crystal clear video clarity and high fidelity audio for a productive, true-to-life experience. By providing nearly 10 times the video quality at a comparable price range to that of traditional, low resolution systems, Lifesize Room is the first to turn any space into a high definition video communications environment.

Lifesize Room leverages TI’s TMS320DM642 DSP-based digital media processors operating at 720 megahertz (MHz). Multiple TI DSP’s perform video compression to enable unsurpassed video conferencing image quality with 1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames per second.

“In order to deliver the first high definition video communications product, we had to work with a technology provider that shared our vision and dedication to making this breakthrough technology a reality. TI was that provider,” said Craig Malloy, CEO of Lifesize. “TI not only offered us the highest performance with 720 MHz DM642s, but also a deep system understanding of the particular requirements inherent to HD-enabled video-over IP products.” Lifesize Room redefines the video communications experience by allowing anyone with dispersed colleagues and operations to now collaborate more clearly and effectively. With better quality video at any bandwidth, users of Lifesize Room will experience high definition resolution at 1Mbps and above, DVD quality at 512kbps and Cable TV quality at 384kbps.

Lifesize Room system incorporates more than 70 TI DSP and analog products. In addition to the DSP, Lifesize Room has several TI high-performance analog and standard linear products that improve system performance and increase power efficiency. The HD platform includes TI’s amplifiers, clock drivers, data converters, interface and power management ICs, such as highly efficient SWIFT™ DC/DC converters, low-power DC/DC controllers, shunt and low-dropout (LDO) regulators. In addition, TI’s TPS2375 Power-over-Ethernet technology allows some of the system components to be powered directly from a CAT-V Ethernet cable instead of an AC line. Lifesize will be demonstrating Lifesize Room live at the TI Developer Conference (TIDC) on March 2 and will be part of the keynote titled, “Heroes Who Entertain Us.” Lifesize Room is available now through the Lifesize network of channel partners in more than 20 countries.
